The First Poetry Space Shuttle Landing on Second Life (2009)

The First Poetry Space Shuttle Landing on Second Life is a virtual installation and performance in Second Life by Caterina Davinio first exhibited at the 53rd Venice Bienniale (2009).

The installation has the form of a stylized space shuttle containing virtual objects, links and poems. It has been created in celebration of the centenary of Italian Futurism and the 40. anniversary of the first lunar landing: this is why from July 20th to 21st, 2009, the installation invited a virtual landing of poets. In Second Life, these poets were represented by colorful spheres and prisms, which, at the contact of the mouse of any visitor, donated a poem file.

The guest book of the shuttle “Welcome on Board” contains more than 300 poems by 233 authors from around the world, collected with a connective work in progress during the Biennale. The installation can be explored in a video recording of the performance.
